When I was 14 years old, I saw a documentary about birthing in water... it made so much sense.

On discovering motherhood was eminent, my research in to water-birth as an option yielded little fruit.

Half way through my pregnancy, a friend asked: 'Please tell me you're going to have the baby the "normal" way?...'

I answered: 'Well, if my normal, you mean -squatting over a leaf lined hole in the woods the way American Indians did... then no...'

Lack of spiritual birthing options led me toward the idea of home birthing, which would seem as ordinary as the sun... but can be a daunting idea for the modernly medically inundated. Woman Wise held my hand, even though I decided late in to my pregnancy that I even wanted a home/ water birth.

Woman wise, from the moment we met them, were kind, engaging, comforting, educating, obliging and pragmatic.

All elements of major necessity in ANY birth.

I shared the home birth experience with Woman Wise, my partner, my mother, my baby's goddess mommy, a photographer, a videographer and a FEW -more- of our closest friends... How else could one enjoy such a blessed home birthin accidental hot tub/sauna party!

My partner was there in the birthing tub with me to hold my hand, and to truly share my experience. He guided our son from the inside safety of me and introduced him to the outside world.

Cardinals were singing in the garden outside our open spring windows as our boy drew his first breath.

The woman wise team sat jovially on the side lines cheering us on. Quiet when appropriate, channeling deep guttural groans when necessary, and joking when called for.

I was happy to share my home birth with Karen and Woman Wise, and I hope to do so again.

The experience was worth every penny and every effort.
