Update 3.75
Jun. 14th, 2006 11:53 pm Its time for another mini update!
It has been an exciting week here in a very Jerry centric time.
Our boy is walking and talking…..
And he has his very own cell phone.
The talking is limited to one word, that word being “uh oh”. It’s a very useful word.
It can be used to announce the misplacement of and looking for, or loss of any object. If we drop our food, “uh oh”.
If we misplace our pacifier, “uh oh”. If we take a nice afternoon stroller ride, stop to pick a neighbors football sized flower,
and we drop it, “uh oh”, he lets us know its 10 yards back. If we don’t like our food, and we spit it out, and want to announce
we have an empty mouth “uh oh”. The escaping of a kitty from a very well intentioned toddler hug, “uh oh”. The use of “uh oh”
is definitely more purposeful than its predecessor “bup-bup-bup” (We have also started to clue in to our baby signs.
We use the word for fish, and the word for light is starting to get use. We have a feeling that the word words are going to come
quicker than the signs with this guy.)
As for the walking WHOO HOO… world watch out. (or should I sad “uh oh, world watch out?”…) This guy is motoring all over the place.
Mom’s friends Magz and
Deborah, who came to visit, evidenced and accelerated the kickoff. With the house full of extra fingers to get guidance from, jerry had lots
of assisted walks all over the place. There was an entertaining occurrence of a game in which jerry stumbled the five-step chasm between
mom and dad, to the encouraging cheers of the many guests. (We have this moment recorded and are very much looking forward to sharing
it with everyone when we have the full computer system set up to post it to the net.) Since then he’s been walking without looking back.
The crawl to walk ratio has almost reached 95 percent walk, 5 percent crawl. And he’s been picking up speed too. He has a circuit he
likes to run in the house. Living room, counterclockwise, to kitchen, to dining area, and over (and over and over and over) again.
Alone, or with object of current fascination in hand, round and round and round he will go. (Master Jerry was spied giving his grandpere
Jean-Claude a run for his money by making his circuit at relative break neck speed, with grandpere fingers locked firmly in hands.
Maybe we should call it break-back speed in this case, because he certainly is short. Us tall folx have to hunch over a bit to give him finger help.)
We have taken some impressively long walks for such little legs in the two weeks since he started his trek. Our most recent was about one
half-mile (give or take) back from a neighbor’s house.
As for the cell phone, he can’t actually call anyone on it. Sorry. But its his new bestest thing. After many tearful moments when denied the
option to telephone East Guam, Mom decided to get Jerry his very own phone with the Kay-Bee toys calling plan. (In other words, when you
press the right key, the phone plays “when you’re happy and you know it…”) The phone makes the circuit, up to the boy’s ear, right side up,
over and over again.
In other news, the rain still falls daily. There are several arks being built in the neighborhood. (Rain is especially tiresome in the hills, maybe
that explains the ark on Mount Ararat in Turkey.)
Jerry LOVES the new car. He has actually ASKED to go for rides now that he has such a spiffy view. YAY.
We have a newly installed new water heater, and I have successfully conquered the mountain of laundry. To give you an idea how much laundry
there was, I did an entire load in just MOSS GREEN.
Jerry is also enjoying rides in his new (trash picked) bicycle seat. He seems to squeal with delight when going down hill. He didn’t seem to
notice when dad lost a pair of pants to the gears. (You think dad would have learned a thing or two about cycle gears by now.)
Yes, a lot has been happening. We are cutting molars. Fun for all! Lots of neurons are firing and lots of learnin’s are revealing themselves fast.
FYI, oatmeal filled baths shrink bug bites on little butts super fast!
